CCS Extension

The College of Computer Studies (CCS) of Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) is a CHED-recognized Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education, committed to delivering quality instruction, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement. In support of the Institute’s mandate for public service, CCS actively implements extension initiatives that translate its technical expertise into programs that benefit various sectors of society. Among its flagship projects are my.CyberSafe, which advances cybersecurity awareness and responsible digital citizenship; Tech Behind Bars, a digital reformation and ICT literacy program for Persons Deprived of Liberty in partnership with BJMP; my.ICT, which provides foundational ICT and digital skills training to underserved youth and communities; and my.ComApps, a hands-on workshop series focusing on embedded systems and IoT applications for students, teachers, and partner institutions. The College also strengthens ICT education research through its ReCITE program, which builds research capabilities among educators in partner schools. Through these initiatives, CCS continues to champion inclusive digital transformation and uphold MSU-IIT’s commitment to responsive and socially relevant extension services.

The WE CARE Office of MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology represents nearly five decades of community service excellence, evolving from the Project Development Center established in 1975 into a cornerstone of the university's public service mandate. This institutional foundation provides the systematic framework for community engagement that bridges academic excellence with societal needs through evidence-based interventions aligned with all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Approved Extension Projects

🟥 my.CyberSafe

The my.CyberSafe extension project is an awareness and capacity-building initiative that responds to the growing risks of cyberattacks brought about by rapid technological advancements and limited cybersecurity education. Through seminars, trainings, and workshops, the project promotes cybersecurity awareness and best practices tailored for diverse beneficiaries, including cooperatives, students, and employees.

Tech Behind Bars 🟦

This initiative underscores the strong partnership between the BJMP and MSU-IIT in promoting the rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) to education and skills development. Through capacity-building activities, literacy and skills programs, and values formation, the initiative equips PDLs with practical competencies that create pathways to employment and entrepreneurship upon reintegration into society.

The my.ICT extension project is designed to empower marginalized youth by providing accessible and context-specific ICT skills training. It develops tailored training modules that emphasize fundamental digital competencies, ensuring both inclusivity and relevance to real-life contexts. By building sustainable, community-based partnerships with local organizations, the project fosters collaborative efforts in advancing ICT education.

my.ComApps 🟩

The my.ComApps extension project serves as an innovative platform for promoting technology education, helping students and educators explore practical applications of embedded systems and IoT. For the year 2024, the program featured a series of hands-on workshops led by experts, ensuring participants gained valuable insights and foundational knowledge from experienced professionals.

🟪 my.RECITEs

The My.RECITEs (Research Capacity Building for IT Educators and Students) project is an extension initiative of the College of Computer Studies (CCS) designed to strengthen research competence among Information Technology students and educators. It provides a structured platform for developing research-oriented mindsets, enhancing technical writing skills, and fostering innovative, socially responsive project ideas.

My.MedMaker 🟧

The My.MedMaker extension project advances healthcare through the adoption of medical makerspace technologies. It introduces health professionals and medical institutions to innovative tools such as virtual surgical planning software and additive manufacturing solutions. Through training programs, technology apprenticeships, and shared service facilities, the project enhances capacity for integrating makerspace technologies into clinical practice and research.

⬛ Tech Beyond Bars

The TechBeyondBars: Digital Transformation for Jail Personnel project is a year-long community extension initiative of the College of Computer Studies (CCS) that aims to strengthen digital competence among personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Tipanoy, Iligan.

Public Service 🟥

The College of Computer Studies (CCS) actively extends its expertise beyond the classroom through its robust public service initiatives. Faculty members and students work hand in hand to share their technical knowledge and skills with various communities by offering specialized training, workshops, and digital services.
