📅 December 03, 2025
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs, through the WE CARE Office of the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), successfully hosted the 2025 Annual Review on SDG Impact on December 3, 2025, at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium. The event brought together faculty researchers, extension leaders, and student innovators from across the Institute to showcase impactful extension and community engagement initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A highlight of the event was the strong representation of the College of Computer Studies (CCS) through its diverse lineup of SDG-driven projects. In the Professional Oral Presentation Category, Asst. Prof. Paul B. Bokingkito, Jr. secured 3rd place with his presentation titled “Legal Knowledge, Digital Practices, and Awareness Among High School Learners: Implications for Education.” This study is a core output of the my.CyberSafe Extension Project, a cybersecurity awareness and capability-building initiative under CCS. The project team is led by Asst. Prof. Bokingkito with members Prof. Rabby Q. Lavilles, Atty. Eddie Bouy B. Palad, Asst. Prof. Jerina Jean M. Ecleo, Assoc. Prof. Mia Amor C. Tinam-Isan, Asst. Prof. Jerame B. Beloy, Asst. Prof. Haron Hakeen D. Lua, Asst. Prof. Nenen S. Borinaga, and Asst. Prof. Maria Camilla Ann R. Llamas. Their work advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by championing cyber awareness and responsible digital citizenship among youth.
Reflecting on the recognition, Paul B. Bokingkito, Jr. shared, “Receiving this award is both humbling and inspiring. It strengthens our commitment to continue delivering meaningful and impactful extension programs that uplift communities and build a safer digital future for all.”
Another notable CCS contribution came from the my.ICT Extension Project, presented by Asst. Prof. Jerina Jean M. Ecleo through her study “Tech-Ready Youth: Exploring AI and Canva Websites Through the MyICT Extension Initiative.” The project strengthens youth digital readiness by introducing emerging technological competencies, supporting SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). The project team includes Instr. Mary Ann Gliefen Bermudo, Asst. Prof. Maria Camilla Ann Llamas, Asst. Prof. Haron Hakeen Lua, Asst. Prof. Jerame Beloy, Asst. Prof. Nenen Borinaga, Instr. Marjorie Tabigue, Prof. Rabby Lavilles, and Asst. Prof. Paul Bokingkito Jr.
The Tech Behind Bars Extension Project also made a strong presence at the review. Assoc. Prof. Alquine Roy Taculin presented “The Tech Behind Bars: Digital Reformation for PDLs — A Model for Inclusive Rehabilitation” in the professional category, complemented by a poster exhibit titled “TechBeyond Bars: ICT Capacity Building for Public Services Monitoring.” These initiatives contribute to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by offering inclusive digital skills training to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The project is led by Assoc. Prof. Taculin with members Asst. Prof. Paul Bokingkito, Asst. Prof. Jerina Jean Ecleo, Asst. Prof. Ma. Fe Bahinting, Asst. Prof. Leah Alindayo, Liezil Daberao, Asst. Prof. Jennifer Joyce Montemayor, and Asst. Prof. Nenen Borinaga.
CCS student innovation also shone during the event. Under the Department of Computer Applications, undergraduate researchers presented “IoT-Based Goat Geofencing Collar: A Design and Development of a Security System for Livestock,” developed by Michael Jibrell Escolano, Israfeel Mikhail Tagorda, and Yke Cedrick Tenecio under the mentorship of Asst. Prof. Paul Rodolf Castor. The study advances SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by integrating IoT technology for sustainable livestock management. Another student-led output titled “IoT-Enabled Rice Growth and Soil Monitoring: A Systematic Literature Review” was presented by Adeline A. Bendula, Martin III R. Canoy, and Mireille Joy R. Dayandayan, also mentored by Asst. Prof. Castor.
Overall, the 2025 Annual Review on SDG Impact underscored the College of Computer Studies’ unwavering commitment to SDG-focused teaching, research, and extension—demonstrating how CCS continues to shape a more secure, inclusive, and technologically empowered future for the communities MSU-IIT serves.
