As digital technologies continue to shape academic and administrative operations, the need for strong cybersecurity awareness within educational institutions has become increasingly critical. In response to this growing demand, the College of Computer Studies (CCS) conducted the cybersecurity awareness on December 17, 2025, at the CCS, Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).
The activity was implemented through the CCS extension project my.CyberSafe: Bridging Cyber Security and Education, in collaboration with the my.ICT Extension Project. It specifically targeted the faculty and staff of MSU-IIT Academy, equipping them with essential knowledge and practical strategies to address cybersecurity concerns relevant to teaching, learning environments, and institutional operations.
The program featured three distinguished resource speakers who provided a comprehensive perspective on cybersecurity, covering digital safety practices, educational implications, and legal responsibilities. Asst. Prof. Haron Hakeem D. Lua opened the session with his talk entitled “Staying Safe Online: Protecting Your Digital Footprints,” where he emphasized responsible online behavior, data privacy, and strategies for minimizing digital risks in everyday online activities.
Following this, Asst. Prof. Paul B. Bokingkito Jr. delivered a discussion on “Cybersecurity Awareness Among High School Learners: Implications for Education.” His presentation highlighted the evolving cyber threats faced by students and underscored the crucial role of educators in integrating cybersecurity awareness into the academic curriculum and school policies.
Completing the series of lectures, Atty. Eddie Bouy B. Palad provided an in-depth discussion on the legal aspects of cybersecurity, with particular emphasis on the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175). His talk increased participants’ awareness of cyber-related offenses, legal liabilities, and the importance of compliance with existing laws in the digital space.
Overall, the activity reinforced the importance of cybersecurity education within the academic community and demonstrated CCS’s continued commitment to extension initiatives that promote digital safety, legal awareness, and responsible technology use. Through programs such as my.CyberSafe, CCS continues to bridge cybersecurity knowledge and educational practice, contributing to a safer and more informed learning environment.
