As digital technologies continue to shape the daily operations of institutions, the importance of cybersecurity awareness has never been more urgent. Responding to this growing need, the College of Computer Studies (CCS), through its extension project my.CyberSafe: Bridging Cyber Security and Education, conducted “Cyber Security Awareness Among MSU-IIT Administrative Personnel” on March 26, 2025, at the OC Boardroom, MSU-IIT.
The session brought together MSU-IIT administrative staff and personnel, acknowledging their vital role as frontline custodians of sensitive institutional data. With the increasing sophistication of cyber threats, CCS recognized the necessity of equipping personnel with the knowledge and skills to safeguard both personal and organizational digital environments.
The activity featured two insightful resource speakers who provided a comprehensive view of cybersecurity—from practical strategies to legal responsibilities.
Asst. Prof. Haron Hakeem D. Lua opened the program with his session on “Staying Safe Online: Protecting Your Digital Footprints.” He discussed how everyday online activities leave lasting traces and offered practical measures to secure personal and work-related information. His talk emphasized the importance of cautious digital behavior, reminding participants that vigilance is key to preventing cyber incidents.
Shifting the focus to the legal dimension, Atty. Eddie Bouy B. Palad delivered a compelling discussion on the legal aspects of cybersafety. He explained the implications of cyber offenses under Philippine law, highlighting why responsible online conduct is both a professional obligation and a legal imperative. His presentation underscored that cyber awareness is not merely about safety—it is about accountability.
This meaningful learning experience was made possible through the dedicated efforts of CCS and the Department of Information Technology. The extension project was spearheaded by Asst. Prof. Paul B. Bokingkito Jr., with its conceptual foundation developed by Atty. Eddie Bouy B. Palad. Their initiative received strong support from Dr. Rabby Q. Lavilles, Dean of CCS, along with faculty members: Assoc. Prof. Mia Amor C. Tinam-Isan, Asst. Prof. Jerina Jean Ecleo, Asst. Prof. Jerame Beloy, Asst. Prof. Ma. Camilla Ann R. Llamas, Asst. Prof. Haron Hakeem Lua, and Asst. Prof. Nenen Borinaga.
Through the my.CyberSafe project, CCS continues to advance its advocacy of promoting responsible digital citizenship across sectors within the university. By extending cybersecurity training to administrative personnel, CCS reaffirms its commitment to cultivating a secure, informed, and cyber-resilient MSU-IIT community.
