The MY.ICT Project delivered one of its most vibrant and impactful extension activities on May 6, 2023, blending learning, creativity, and community spirit into a memorable day for all participants. The event opened with a festive and hearty lunch that brought everyone together, establishing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This was followed by a series of lively icebreaker games that not only energized the participants but also fostered camaraderie, excitement, and a sense of shared purpose—setting the perfect tone for a day of collaboration and innovation.
The core of the program focused on the training titled “Beginner’s Guide to Open-Source Tools for Mobile App Development,” a topic that captured the participants’ interest from the outset. The trainers delivered an expertly crafted session, offering a clear and engaging introduction to mobile app development using open-source tools—an increasingly relevant skill in today's digital world. The session covered essential concepts such as user interface design, app functionality, workflow planning, and the strengths of different open-source platforms. Participants also gained exposure to the latest trends and emerging technologies in the field, broadening their understanding of what modern app development entails.
The training’s impact deepened during the hands-on workshop, where participants were grouped into teams and challenged to conceptualize and build mobile applications that could contribute to social good. This collaborative approach encouraged communication, critical thinking, and creativity as participants transformed their ideas into functional prototypes. The learning environment remained supportive and dynamic throughout, with trainers offering personalized guidance, troubleshooting assistance, and valuable insights to ensure that everyone—regardless of background or skill level—could fully engage with the material.
The outputs produced during the workshop were exceptional. Participants showcased a variety of mobile app prototypes addressing real-world issues, each reflecting thoughtful design, user-friendly interfaces, and innovative features. The participants also shared their reflections through Padlet, giving them an additional platform to share their accomplishments and receive positive feedback from their peers and mentors. This recognition boosted their confidence and highlighted the workshop’s success in empowering learners to embrace digital creation.
The event left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Participants not only gained technical skills but also developed a deeper appreciation for the role of technology in shaping solutions for communities. The MY.ICT project once again demonstrated its commitment to providing accessible and impactful learning opportunities—promoting digital literacy, inspiring innovation, and building a community of future-ready individuals.
In its entirety, the MY.ICT project extension activity was more than a training session; it was a transformative learning experience. With its effective blend of expert instruction, collaborative learning, and meaningful engagement, the event strengthened the participants’ confidence and sparked a renewed passion for exploring the world of ICT and mobile application development. The skills and motivations gained from this workshop will undoubtedly continue to influence and empower the participants long after the event has concluded.
