The MY.ICT Extension Project successfully conducted an enriching session on June 10, 2023, focusing on one of the most critical competencies in the modern digital landscape—digital citizenship. The activity opened with an insightful introduction by Assistant Professor Paul B. Bokingkito, who underscored the growing importance of being responsible, ethical, and empowered digital citizens. He emphasized that in a world where online interactions increasingly influence personal and professional lives, understanding how to manage one’s digital presence is no longer optional but essential. His discussion on digital civility—the practice of engaging respectfully, empathetically, and thoughtfully online—set a meaningful tone for the session, reminding participants that digital behavior carries real-world implications.
To deepen the exploration of these concepts, Assistant Professor Jerina Ecleo conducted an interactive activity titled “Truth and Lie.” This engaging exercise encouraged participants to examine the impact of misinformation, deceptive behavior, and unchecked sharing on digital platforms. Through this activity, students reflected on how false information spreads, how easily online narratives can be manipulated, and why critical evaluation of content is vital. The activity served as a powerful reminder of the responsibility each person holds in contributing to a safe and truthful digital environment.
Another highlight of the session was the “Google Yourself” activity, which invited participants to search for their names online. This eye-opening exercise allowed them to discover their existing digital footprints—revealing what information, images, or traces of their online presence were publicly visible. It prompted meaningful discussions on digital identity management, privacy, and the long-term implications of one’s actions on social media and other online platforms. Participants gained a clearer understanding of how their digital persona is shaped and how they can take proactive steps to curate a positive and secure online identity.
The session culminated in a reflective sharing of outputs, where participants presented their insights and realizations from the day’s activities. These discussions highlighted a growing awareness of the influence of digital behavior and the importance of intentional, responsible engagement online. Certificates of participation were awarded to acknowledge their active involvement and successful completion of the session. Participants also shared feedback and reflections through Padlet, expressing appreciation for the meaningful and eye-opening learning experience.
Overall, the MY.ICT Extension Project’s June 10 activity was a resounding success, offering participants practical knowledge, thought-provoking activities, and a deeper appreciation for responsible digital citizenship. Through its blend of expert facilitation, interactive learning, and reflective exercises, the session empowered participants to navigate the digital world with greater awareness, accountability, and confidence—skills that are increasingly indispensable in today’s interconnected society.
