The MY.ICT Extension Project continued its mission of strengthening digital competencies with an inspiring and highly engaging training workshop on graphic design using Canva, held on July 8, 2023. This session, which marked the fifth installment of the project, successfully blended creativity, self-expression, and digital skill-building—making it one of the most memorable activities for the participants.
The workshop featured two interactive design activities. First, participants created an infographic about themselves, allowing them to visually express their identities, interests, and aspirations. The second activity encouraged them to design infographics showcasing their favorite books, films, artists, bands, and hobbies. These tasks enabled participants to explore Canva’s user-friendly tools while learning how to communicate meaningfully through design.
Throughout the session, participants were guided on how to use icons, illustrations, screenshots, color palettes, and layout techniques to craft visually appealing and informative content. They also practiced writing concise and descriptive captions—an essential skill in producing clear and effective digital outputs. The workshop emphasized the importance of thoughtful design not just as a creative exercise but also as a communication tool in academic, social, and professional contexts.
Beyond technical skills, the training highlighted the deeper significance of digital creativity in the modern world. By learning to design compelling infographics, participants discovered how visual storytelling can help them express ideas responsibly, respectfully, and authentically online. The session reinforced key principles of digital citizenship, encouraging youth to be intentional with the content they create and share, and to recognize the impact of positive, well-crafted digital communication.
The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates of participation, celebrating the learners’ dedication and progress. Participants also shared their reflections and feedback through Padlet, expressing pride in their outputs and appreciation for the supportive and enriching learning environment.
Overall, the fifth MY.ICT session was a resounding success—equipping participants with practical graphic design skills while nurturing creativity, confidence, and responsible digital engagement. The workshop not only strengthened their ICT capabilities but also empowered them to craft and convey their personal narratives in meaningful and visually engaging ways in today’s digital age.
