Empowering Safe Digital Futures: MY.ICT Conducts Cybersecurity Training for Marginalized Youth
📅 September 10, 2023
The MY.ICT Extension Project continued its mission of building digital empowerment among marginalized youth through a highly impactful session on cybersecurity, held on September 9, 2023. Recognizing the increasing risks and responsibilities that come with living in a digitally connected world, the session focused on equipping participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to protect themselves and their information online.
Cybersecurity has become a critical life skill in the modern era, where online platforms serve as gateways for communication, education, business, and innovation. The training introduced participants to essential rules, best practices, and real-world strategies for maintaining online safety—ranging from strong password creation and privacy settings to responsible digital behavior and safe information-sharing habits. By understanding the threats that exist in cyberspace, participants gained the confidence to navigate the digital world more securely and responsibly.
The workshop was more than a lecture; it was a hands-on learning experience designed to encourage critical thinking and informed decision-making. Through guided discussions and engaging activities, the participants explored scenarios that demonstrated how cyber threats unfold and how they can be avoided. These activities helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that participants could immediately begin applying what they learned to their daily online interactions.
At the conclusion of the session, participants were awarded certificates of completion, symbolizing not only their attendance but also their commitment to becoming responsible digital citizens. These certificates represent their growth in understanding cybersecurity and reflect their readiness to engage in digital spaces with heightened awareness and caution. Participants also shared their insights and appreciation through Padlet, expressing how transformative and empowering the session was in helping them recognize the importance of protecting their digital lives.
By emphasizing cybersecurity, the MY.ICT Extension Project aligns itself with the evolving demands of today’s digital environment. The training prepares marginalized youth not only to safeguard their personal information but also to confidently pursue future opportunities in online entrepreneurship, education, and employment. Equipped with foundational cybersecurity skills, these young individuals are now better positioned to navigate the digital landscape with resilience and discernment.
Ultimately, the MY.ICT Extension Project is nurturing a more informed, secure, and digitally empowered generation—one capable of facing the challenges of the online world while making meaningful use of the opportunities it offers.
