The Information Technology (IT) Department of the Universidad de Zamboanga (UZ), under the College of Engineering and led by Dean Mary Ann Beth L. Kong, visited the IT Department of the College of Computer Studies (CCS) at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) on Friday, November 29, 2024, for an institutional benchmarking activity. The visit aimed to learn from CCS’s best practices, innovative academic strategies, and well-established IT infrastructure—key components that have positioned the department as a leading institution for IT education, research, and community-driven initiatives in the region.
Upon arrival, the UZ delegation was welcomed by Dr. Rabby Q. Lavilles, Dean of the College of Computer Studies; Atty. Eddie Bouy B. Palad, Chairperson of the IT Department; and Paul B. Together, they presented an overview of CCS’s academic programs, research landscape, and extension initiatives, emphasizing the department’s commitment to quality, innovation, and student-centered learning.
The benchmarking visit included a guided tour of CCS’s modern facilities, such as specialized laboratories, collaborative learning spaces, and technology-enabled classrooms. The delegation also engaged in detailed discussions about ongoing research projects, accreditation efforts, and innovative pedagogical approaches that contribute to the department’s strong academic performance and industry relevance.
In addition, both institutions exchanged insights on potential areas of collaboration, including joint research projects, faculty development programs, and community extension partnerships that address regional digital needs and support shared advocacy for educational advancement. The dialogue highlighted opportunities to further strengthen student engagement, internship pipelines, and innovation-focused initiatives across institutions. The activity reaffirmed the mutual commitment of MSU-IIT and Universidad de Zamboanga to promoting academic excellence, innovation, and regional cooperation. The productive exchange laid a strong foundation for future partnerships designed to elevate IT education and foster meaningful contributions within their respective communities and beyond.
