From September 6 to 8, 2023, a three-day Web Accessibility Audit Training was successfully conducted at the Provincial Capitol Building in Tubod, Lanao del Norte. The initiative was a collaborative effort between MSU-IIT and DICT10, in partnership with the Lanao del Norte Provincial Office and the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte (PGLDN). The program brought together a diverse group of participants—representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs) across Lanao del Norte, faculty members from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and professionals from private institutions—united by a shared commitment to developing more accessible and inclusive digital platforms.
Guided by Asst. Prof. Paul B. Bokingkito, Jr., an experienced faculty member of Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and an active contributor to DICT10’s Web Accessibility Audit initiatives, the training emphasized the vital importance of designing websites that meet the needs of all users, including persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and individuals with varying digital capabilities. Asst. Prof. Bokingkito provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to accessibility standards, common usability barriers, and the principles behind building equitable online spaces.
Throughout the three-day workshop, participants engaged in a series of practical and interactive learning sessions. These included hands-on evaluations of actual websites, collaborative discussions on accessibility challenges, and guided demonstrations of auditing tools and techniques. By the final day, participants were able to apply their newly gained competencies by presenting their own web accessibility audit findings—a culminating activity that highlighted their improved skills and deeper understanding of inclusive digital development.
The training underscored a strong regional commitment to enhancing digital accessibility and ensuring that government websites and online platforms are compliant with national and international standards. The partnership among DICT10, MSU-IIT, and PGLDN reflects a unified mission to build a more inclusive digital ecosystem across Lanao del Norte—one that ensures equal access to information and online public services for all members of the community.
As the program concluded, participants expressed enthusiasm and readiness to apply accessibility auditing practices within their respective institutions. Their engagement marks an important step toward transforming the digital landscape of Lanao del Norte into one that is more responsive, equitable, and empowering for every citizen.
